Gum disease should never be left untreated. This serious condition may result in tooth loss, damaged jaws and gums, and other complications. We provide options for preventing and treating the various stages of gum disease. At Greenfield Dental Health Group, we have a periodontist as part of our dental team. Scaling and Root Planing
Healthy, clean tooth roots are flat and smooth. When tartar builds up and causes jagged imperfections, the surrounding gum tissue becomes irritated. This can lead to serious bacterial infections if left untreated. We remove the tartar buildup with scaling and planing tools to smooth out the root and prevent more damage from occurring.
Tooth Extraction
If you have a tooth that has been damaged or compromised beyond repair, we provide extractions to ensure the preservation of your overall oral health. All extractions are performed under local anesthetic. If you're anxious about the procedure, we have other sedation options available.
Ridge Socket Preservation
If you've undergone a tooth extraction or otherwise lost a tooth, the socket must be protected. A socket that is left open will dry out and the surrounding tissue may collapse into the empty space. To prevent this, we fill the socket with a special material that preserves the structure of the socket.
Frenectomy
A frenectomy is the surgical removal of the muscular attachment between two tissues in the mouth which may be causing gap teeth or other issues.
Preventing Gum Disease
Good oral hygiene plays a key role in preventing the onset of gum disease. Brush and floss your teeth regularly. Don't skip your yearly checkups and cleanings, as some damage may go undetected and tartar buildup can only be removed with special tools.
